The Defense Health Agency (DHA) is undergoing a reorganization in which the administration and management of military hospitals and clinics are being moved from the military services to DHA. The goal is to improve the readiness of the armed forces and the health care provided to warfighters and their families. At the same time, the DHA’s Program Executive Office – Defense Healthcare Management Systems (PEO DHMS) is looking to support the warfighter by creating a world-class technology operation by bringing in new people with the right skills and fostering a culture of innovation. DHMS is the program executive office for modernizing electronic health records and data sharing platforms across the U.S. military.
As DHA has assumed responsibility for the administration of military medical treatment facilities, the agency’s portfolio of virtual health capabilities is being integrated with the military health care system. For instance, secure messaging has been integrated with DHA’s legacy TRICARE Online Patient Portal and with a one-stop shop, a patient can connect to the 24-hour, toll free Military Health System Nurse Advice Line, see their test results, read their medical clinical results or medical notes as well as make appointments.
