Peter Hoang is a proven cybersecurity leader with an established track record of successfully transforming multi-million-dollar compliance-based security programs to an enterprise cybersecurity strategy that focuses on risk-based outcomes and customer centric service delivery. Peter has spent the past decade + serving in a variety of industries and missions. His diverse background includes economics, education, healthcare, Department of Defense, federal civilian public sector, statistical research, data analytics, management consulting, and advisory services. Peter’s experience ranges from the executive level briefings that include budget justifications to the board to leading tactical, day-to-day cyber operations as well as strategic development and operationalizing cybersecurity initiatives such as Information Technology supply chain risk management programs. Currently, he is the Chief for Cyber Governance, Risk, and Strategy for U.S. Department of Education where he advanced the Department of Education’s Enterprise Cybersecurity Program’s FISMA maturity score to a level 4, achieving record ratings of program maturity including advancement organizational cyber culture and capabilities. Peter drives federal-wide priorities through chartered working groups and partnerships with industry committees that allow the government to consistently deliver high-quality, innovative solutions to the public. As a government official, he previously served at the US Census Bureau as a senior advisor to the CIO achieving the 2020 census goal of a fully capable internet self-response & enterprise data collection and processing initiative through first time use of mobile and cloud computing infrastructure saving the agency billions compared to repeating the 2010 manual data collection process. Prior to public service, Peter was a seasoned consultant with experience advising Fortune 500/Global 2000 clients and stakeholders. Through strong analytical skills and subject matter expertise with a full range of cybersecurity topics and issues, including: Governance Risk and Compliance, technical cybersecurity solutions, incident response, and end-user cyber situational awareness he was able to provide recommendations and solutions that allowed mission/business success.
