Ms. Steele holds a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Sussex in Brighton, England and before starting her federal government career was an econometrics and data analytics consultant in the Washington DC area. Ms. Steele then worked as the Field Operations Data Analytics Branch Chief for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for several years before working in the office of the Chief Data Officer in FEMA’s Office of Policy and Program Analysis. Ms. Steele has lead the development of FEMA’s first ever data strategy as well as the implementation of data governance operating model and the publication of overarching data sharing and data management agency policies.
