In September 2025, Jason W. Richards became the Assistant Director of the IT Applications & Data Division (ITADD).

From November 2023 – September 2025, Mr. Richards served as the Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) of the HUMINT Tradecraft and Intelligence Technology Branch (HTITIB), in the Directorate of Intelligence. In this role, he served as the senior executive leader for enterprise HUMINT policy, training, tradecraft, and risk management.  Mr. Richards also led the information technology portfolio for the intelligence program, ensuring mission effectiveness by equipping FBI personnel with the right tools, policy, support, and training to address analytic and investigative challenges.

From February 2022 to October 2023, Mr. Richards served as the Section Chief of the Enterprise Technology and Services Section (ETSS), in the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). ETSS is responsible for network architecture, cloud assessments and strategy, IT supply chain risk, and innovation for the FBI.

Prior to his time in the OCIO, Mr. Richards was the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of Branch 1 in the WFO Counterterrorism Division.  Prior to WFO, Mr. Richards served as an Assistant Section Chief in the Counterterrorism Division, Target Discovery Section and Counterterrorism Analysis Section at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Richards joined the FBI as a special agent in 2005 and began work in the Washington Field Office as a Counterintelligence (CI) agent. In late 2009, Mr. Richards was promoted to be a supervisor for the Geospatial Intelligence Unit in the Directorate of Intelligence (DI), where he helped to build a new FBI geospatial capability along with other priority information technology (IT) projects for the FBI Intelligence program. 

In early 2012, Mr. Richards resumed work as a case agent at WFO, on an extraterritorial Counterterrorism squad.  In the middle of 2014, Mr. Richards was selected as the Unit Chief of the Strategic Technology Unit in the DI, where he led teams that managed priority IT systems and budgets for the FBI enterprise. 

In early 2016, Mr. Richards was selected as the supervisor of the Seattle Field Office HUMINT squad and was responsible for priority CT, CI and other threats in the Seattle AOR. 

Prior to the FBI, Mr. Richards worked as a litigation attorney in Ohio.  He received a degree in Political Science from Youngstown State University, and a law degree from Cleveland State University.
