Mr. Jay Alalasundaram currently holds the Senior Executive Service position of OIT Deputy Assistant Commissioner (DAC), Software Applications and Services (SAS), and Chief Software Officer. Software Applications and Services provides comprehensive technical support in the areas of software application development, operations, and maintenance for border enforcement, passenger, and cargo processing, targeting and analysis, and management systems solutions to include seamless service delivery of new technology solutions while increasing agency-wide use of core sets of technology capabilities and decreasing duplication. Mr. Alalasundaram has been pivotal in implementing cutting-edge digital tools and software resources to streamline traveler and cargo processing and enforcement, improve security, and boost operational efficiency. His leadership in the deployment of cloud-based software, Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven security systems, and data analytics has transformed how CBP officers and agents access and use information on the ground, enabling faster, more informed decision-making in real-time.

“Ensuring users have the right IT software capabilities and data available anywhere and anytime at the speed of CBP’s 24/7 mission,” is the mission of the software development teams that he directs.
Prior to this role, Mr. Alalasundaram served as the Executive Director, Passenger Systems Program Directorate (PSPD), Office of Information and Technology (OIT), Enterprise Services since March 2021. He directed PSPD's core mission to deliver and sustain technology solutions to facilitate legitimate travel into and out of the United States.

Mr. Alalasundaram previously served as Deputy Executive Director of the Cargo Systems Program Directorate in OIT, where he directed the IT operations for the DHS Level 1 Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) Program, the primary CBP information technology system that facilitates the electronic importation and exportation of goods into and from the United States.

Mr. Alalasundaram holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master's Certificate in Information Technology Program Management. In 2019, he received the prestigious DHS Information Technology Professional of the Year award.
