Assistant Administrator (AA)/Director Kimberley “KT” Thompson started her career with TSA Investigations in July of 2022. In her current role, she oversees all investigations into allegations of criminal activity and insider threats within the transportation security sector and acts of non-criminal misconduct impacting TSA personnel and operations. She also manages the TSA National Polygraph Program, the Body Worn Camera Program, Field Operations, and Headquarters Support Operations.
Kimberley started her law enforcement career over 25 years ago as a Dallas Police Officer, serving her community as a patrol officer. The horrific events of 9/11 tapped into her military upbringing and inspired her to seek federal employment in an effort to expand her service to our Nation. In October of 2003, she joined TSA as a Federal Air Marshal (FAM).
In her 20+ years with TSA, Kimberley has held a variety of positions ranging from serving as a mission status FAM in Chicago and New York field offices, a legal and investigative training instructor at the FAMS Training Division, and the FAMS public affairs officer on the Director’s staff. Additional senior-level positions within TSA include but are not limited to: Assistant Supervisory Air Marshal in Charge (ASAC) within the Law Enforcement/Information Coordination Section (LE/ICS), ASAC and Supervisory Federal Air Marshal (SFAM) at the Washington Field Office (WFO), ASAC at the Boston Field Office (BOS), a detail assignment within the DHS Chief Readiness Support Office (CRSO), an Executive Director detail with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the Acting Supervisory Air Marshal in Charge (SAC) of the Transportation Security Operations Center (TSOC). In October of 2020, Kimberley provided strategic guidance and direction to build operational response capability for new authorities under 6 USC 124n.
Kimberley holds a Master’s Degree in Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickenson University and a Bachelor’s in Law Enforcement-Police Science from Sam Houston State University. She is a graduate of the TSA Senior Leadership Development Program (SLDP) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Senior Executive Service (SES) Candidate Development Program (CDP). In 2012, Kimberley was awarded the Women in Federal Law Enforcement (WIFLE) Outstanding Advocate for Women in Federal Law Enforcement.
