Kimberly Weissman serves as the Senior Communication Advisor for the Biometric Entry/Exit program at U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Ms. Weissman advises CBP leadership who oversee the biometric Entry/Exit program on communication strategies and outreach. With more than 20 years of federal service specializing in Public Affairs and stakeholder outreach, she has spent most of her career educating and informing various audiences, including the press, public, key stakeholders, academia, and international partners about the benefits of expanding biometrics, including facial comparison technology, into the travel process through public-private partnerships to further secure and enhance the customer experience.
Before Ms. Weissman joined the Department of Homeland Security in 2003, as one of the first 180,000 employees in the newly created Department, she began her federal service as a Public Affairs Officer at the Department of State; served under the White House Press Office and accompanied the press as a member of the President’s travel team during domestic and foreign travel; and was selected as a Presidential Management Fellow where she served as a Press Officer specializing in inspections and international affairs at the former Immigration and Naturalization Service. Ms. Weissman served as the first spokesperson at the newly created DHS/U.S. Customs and Border Protection in 2003, before spending several years as the key spokesperson at DHS/U.S. VISIT. Since 2020, Ms. Weissman has served as the DHS Advisor on the Fed ID Planning Committee to develop the framework and sessions for the government’s key biometrics and identity conference each year.
