Steve Yonkers works for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, HQ Office of Strategy,
Policy, and Plans. He currently serves as the Director of the REAL ID program, working with
all 50 states, D.C., and the territories to comply with the REAL ID Act and regulations and
prepare for the upcoming enforcement of REAL ID requirements on May 3, 2023. Mr. Yonkers
also serves as the Director of biometrics and credentialing strategy and policy for the Department
supporting DHS Component efforts to use biometrics as part of person screening and vetting
operations and developing biometrics interoperability with other federal departments and
agencies. Mr. Yonkers holds professional certifications in Identity Management, Information
Privacy, and Acquisition Program Management.
