In its entirety, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is the largest organization focused on improving human health through biomedical research in the world. Behind the research enterprise and the administration of research funding is a complex ecosystem of digital technology that plays a critical role in enabling the NIH mission. The overall NIH IT workforce works in concert to fulfill our mission while enabling some of the most advanced technologies to support cutting edge scientific pursuits securely and impactfully. In this presentation, Dr. Mooney will discuss recent innovations in biomedical research computing in the cloud, high performance computing, a secure data ecosystem, and flexible workbenches and workspaces for doing a broad range of data science tasks. Dr. Mooney will describe the growing digital ecosystem that is aligned with the NIH Data Science Strategy and the goals of the Digital NIH. This includes use of computers to bring clinical research and AI to the Point of Care as well as enabling compliant research use access to observational clinical data sets.
