Jason Bates began his professional career as a Signals Intelligence Communicator for the United States Marine Corps. After the conclusion of his military service, Mr. Bates served for 20 years at the Department of State in contractor and federal positions domestically and overseas. These positions included leadership in IT project/program management, systems engineering, Diplomatic Security’s Cyber Incident Response Team (CIRT) Chief, Regional Cybersecurity Officer in Europe, and as Diplomatic Security’s Deputy Division Chief for Cyber Operations. In May 2022, Mr. Bates assumed his current position as the Deputy Chief Information Security Officer for the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General.

Mr. Bates holds a Bachelor of Science from Excelsior College, a Master of Science in Information and Telecommunications Systems Management and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) each from Capitol Technical University. He is also a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and Project Management Professional (PMP).
